Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival - Handspinning Basics

Have you ever wished that you could make your own yarn, just the way you want it? If the answer is “Yes,” then this is the workshop for you! We will begin with the basics of drop spindle spinning using the “park and draft method. Then we will move on to the basics of wheel spinning. Included in the workshop will be discussions and demonstrations of drafting and plying methods.

Experience Level: Beginner. The only prerequisite is an open mind and a desire to learn.

Materials to be provided by instructor: Instructor will have a limited number of spindles available for participants to borrow during the workshop. However, the instructor’s spindles must be reserved in advance. A limited number of wheels are available for rent for $10.
Instructor will also have a few pieces of equipment (ie, niddy noddies, nostepinnes) for participants to use during the workshop.

Materials to be provided by students: Participants should bring note-taking supplies, fiber prep tools (handcards, flicker, or mini combs), a spinning wheel in good working order, extra bobbins and lazy kate.

Students Should Bring: Note-taking supplies and a spindle and/or spinning wheel, if you have one.

Price: $75.00

Materials Fee: $25.00 payable to the instructor.
